How were you trained ? ! ? ! ? =D
Hey, I was curious about how everybody here was trained? Did you go to puppy preschool? Obedience dog training? A professian dog hadler etc? By your owner? Maybe using a certain method? or maybe your not trained at all!

As a young pup mum trained me the basics such as sit, drop and come using a food reward. I was good but i wouldn't sit from a drop or drop from a stading position. Mum had heard wonderful reviews about things called dog training clickers. She reseached about them and learnt that they are a device that makes a clicking noise. You ask your dog to do a command and when they do it you click and then reward. The idea is that when you click it tells the dog the exact second it did the right thing. Like in sit you click the very second its bottom touches the floor. It takes a while for them to work it out but when they do it is amazing. Mum bought a clicker (she must admit she was a wee bit sceptic) and guess what it worked!

I now sit, drop and stand from any position, anywhere. I can shake, wave, roll over, stay and come. It is great because i know exactly what i'm doing right. If mum says a command and i do the wrong one i dont get confused because i think i'm just not getting rewarded i just try something else until i hear the magical clicking noise. It makes learing new tricks a breeze because i know what i'm looking for. Its also great cause i always get a reward!!!!!

Next week i'm starting dog training at the local Kennel club too! Wish me luck

We went to puppy preschool and the local dog obedience club - we both did 3 levels at obedience but we got really bored with it.

The bestest training we did, which we both absolutely loved cause it was so much fun, was at the RSPCA.  Their life skills courses teach not only the basics but because classes are small you can work on specific problems or issues that aren't covered in obedience clubs.  They are more expensive than the clubs if you want to do a couple of classes but worth every cent.  Plus we did other fun things during class like mini agility courses.

Tully also saw a vet psych and behaviourist cause she was naughty esp after she got attacked.

My Mum got me from the Dogs home when I was older. The person who had me first wasn't very kind and I was taken away. When Mum got me, I was very scared and not trained. She has been kind to me and takes me to Obedience School at a Club where we work on my obedience and social issues. I am a lot better than I used to be, and I really like going there. Mum uses positive reinforcement training, and also teaches me tricks using a clicker. Mum says we still have a long way to go, but that it is worth it. I don't mind, I like it too.

I went to Puppy School the started obedience. We got up to the 4th level and now it's boring. I'm trained at home using Positive Reinforcement and Clicker Training. So no matter what I do, I don't get in trouble! I can do 33 tricks in total. I can even go down slides and weave through my owners legs!
Lots o' licks,

Bonnie
