Signing Up

When you signup, you get to choose your (dog's) username.

You also get to enter his/her breed, his job (eg best friend), his birthday, country (Australia!), state and city. That's just to make it easy for you to find other dogs that live nearby, or are the same breed, so you can visit their pages, write comments and send messages.

There's some verification text on the signup page, to make sure that you are a real person. Sometimes software programs try to automatically create lots of new members, so the verification text tries to stop that.

You also get sent a confirmation email before you can login. Again, that's to stop automated software programs, and also to make sure that you typed in the right email address. Each dog needs his own email address. (Sorry - I have two boys, and two male dogs, so I naturally call everyone him. I'm the only female at home). If you don't receive a confirmation email, first check your junk mail. If you still don't have one, use the Contact Us page to tell me the username and email address, and I will manually activate you.

Profile Picture

When you first login, go to My Account. You will see a link to Change Picture. Click on that to upload your Profile Picture. I restrict all photos to 350px and 25KB, to keep the site loading quickly. If you don't have a small picture handy, I recommend using ShrinkPictures.com to shrink them. It may take a few minutes to refresh, as the site caches (stores commonly used variables) to keep things running quickly.

Profile Pages

All members have their own personal webpage, called a Profile Page. You can see someone's Profile Page by clicking on their photo.

Upgraded members can customise their own webpage (as well as getting more storage and more access), to change the colours, and give it more bling. There's a link to Upgrade at the bottom of the page.

Pictures

Members can upload their dog pictures. Free members have up to 100KB picture space, BigDogs 500KB and PackLeaders 1MB.

Pictures are restricted to 350px and 25kB, to keep the site fast. You can use shrink them (see above). If you can shrink your pictures to 10KB each, you will be able to display 10 pictures on a free account. You can delete old pictures, and upload new ones at a smaller size.

You can Rate pictures out of 10. Every second Sunday (roughly), the top rated picture gets their membership upgraded to BigDog, if they aren't already. Click on Pictures, then Rate, then Top Rated, to see the most popular pictures. You can also Battle pictures, where you pick your favourite out of two competing pictures.

Blogs

All members have their own Dog Blog. Go to Blogs, then Write New Blog, to write a new post. Your blog has a title, a tag, and the content. Tags are single words that describe your post, that people can use for searching. Eg BigDog, WaterDog, toys.

Your Profile Page shows links to recent Blog Posts about halfway down the left side of the page, and there's also a Tab called Blogs that will show all your Blog Posts. You can even subscribe to other dog's Blogs if you use an RSS Reader, if it has one of those orange blog symbols on the page.

Forums

All members can take part in the Forum. This is the place to suggest changes, and just chat on topics related to dogs.

Shops

Just a list of online shops selling dog accessories, toys, food etc. Feel welcome to visit them.

Polls

All members can create and do polls.

Articles

This is for experts in their field, to submit articles on training, health and other dog concerns. For upgraded members only.

Groups

All members can be part of a Group. You can create a Breed, Sporting, Non-Profit, Training or Dog Park Group, and meet together online, sharing pictures and forum notes on what your group has gotten up to.

Videos

Upgraded members can add their videos from YouTube, Google Video and select other video hosting sites. You just cut and paste the URL (address) of the page where your video is hosted, and it will get added to your Profile Page, and be available for others to see in the Videos page.

Classifieds

Members can list dog-related items such as lost and found, free to good home, and looking for something.

Quizzes

Members can create quizzes, to see how much you know about dog stuff.

Events

Upgraded members can create events. Events can be public or private, so if your local dog park was holding a Christmas party, you could invite members and even track the RSVPs.

Map

Map shows the location of the last 100 dogs that logged on. If you click on a marker, it will show the name of the dog who lives there. The map is based on the IP address of where you logged on from, not the city that you entered as your dog's home.

My Account

In My Account, Account Settings you can update your settings, such as your suburb, email address, privacy, email notifications.

In My Account, Profile Settings, you can update your breed, job and classification.

In My Account, Profile Design, you can customise your Profile Page, if you are an upgraded member.

In My Account, Theme, I accidentally turned this on during the last upgrade. Didn't mean to. It's just if you don't like my bright and cheery colours, which are supposed to represent the green of the grass and a brown dog playing on it. I may make more themes, if I get some time someday.
